Before You Apply: Things You Must Know
在你申请之前你必须知道的事

Graduate study in my group is for people who want to grow through serious research, not simply collect a credential.

  1. If your main goal is to get a degree so that you can find a better job, please do not apply.
  2. If you want to become outstanding rather than average, you may consider applying. But you should be ready for the expectations below.
  3. You must be self-motivated. This means you have a clear sense of what you want, at least for the next three to five years, and you are willing to invest serious time and effort without being pushed. You are responsible for your own graduation. As your supervisor, I can help you reach your goal, but I cannot replace your ownership. If you do not take responsibility for the process, you should not blame your supervisor or the environment for the outcome.
  4. I will not push you or chase you for progress. I will not schedule regular meetings just to ask what you have done. You should contact me and book time when you need discussion, feedback, or help. I also will not require you to work a fixed number of hours every day. Instead, you must keep yourself in good condition: exercise regularly, maintain a stable mindset, and make steady daily progress.
  5. You should have strong coding ability, strong mathematical ability, or both. Evidence can take many forms: technically solid papers at CCF-A venues, a strong GitHub profile with meaningful projects, medals in serious competitions, or other work that clearly demonstrates your ability. Before sending an email, think carefully about whether your materials can prove this.
